- Part of the magic of carving with soapstone is that it only when polished you will be able to see the beautiful colour variations and high sheen. Rough soapstone looks mostly grey otherwise. So the colours on this piece will vary between light and dark green, beige, browns and greys.
- Soapstone is soft than most woods, so regular hand tools meant for wood work great. Most art and hardware store will carry a selection of wood files and rasps. To start look for a needle file that is half round with a good amount of bite. The pointed end is used to make fine details; the round side can take lots of material when needed; the edge can be used as knife to cut straight lines.
- Soapstone has been used by Inuit sculptors and other native tribes to showcase unique and gorgeous pieces of art!
