Bat echolocation calls are ultrasonic and out of the range of human hearing. The Echo Meter Touch (EMT) module combines an ultrasonic microphone and digitizing circuitry to capture the sounds and send them to the EMT app where they are transformed into audio that you can hear and an interactive spectrogram to visualize the sounds.

There are 45 bat species in North America, each with its own slightly different type of ultrasonic echolocation call. The Auto ID feature uses sophisticated algorithms to analyze the echolocation calls and identify the most likely species of bats. A pop-up shows you the two most likely bat species matches in real time with a portrait of each bat taken by renowned bat expert Merlin Tuttle. You can click on each species to learn more about the bat. Currently, EMT can identify bat species from North America, the Neotropics, the UK, Europe and South Africa.

Bat biologists use EMT to create libraries of bat call recordings for research. Now, you can create a library too. Bring your EMT on evening walks or vacations, or use it right in your backyard. Your library will grow along with your knowledge and appreciation of bats. Every recording is geotagged and displayed on Google Maps. It's a fun way to share where you've been and bats you discovered there.

EMT makes it easy to share what you've discovered. Each recording can be sent via text message or email. Your recordings contain species ID and location so friends can use the free EMT app to discover with you. Or use Wi-Fi to transfer recordings to your Mac or PC.
