By connecting the 2 metal bars on opposite sides of the spindles and tightening with the included allen wrench, Hold It Mate becomes part of your railing. This system will hold up to 15 lbs, more than enough for potted plants, bird feeders, chimes, lanterns, etc. It comes with 3 different length bolts to ensure the system will work with spindles of all thicknesses between 1/2" and 1 1/2" and will fit railings that are built to code, which is usually about a 4" gap between the spindles.
