This book presents a new and innovative solution to making diagnoses in the field of mental disturbances ( see the movie with details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=345RQLQjXiw ).
In the present day, most of the existing books show the reader a list of criteria (that defines depression, anxiety, or any other mental disorder). The reader is asked to verify that what he/she feels or thinks fits the list. If the reader's symptoms fit, the book has described his or her diagnosis. If not, there is probably another diagnosis. In this case either the reader remains without an answer or he/she must start the diagnostic process again with a new list of new criteria.
Dr. Balan's present book does not show the reader a list of criteria (that defines depression, anxiety, or any other mental disorder) or ask him/her to verify that what he/she feels fits a list.
This book is different: We know today that psychiatric or psychological diagnoses are reached only by putting together the answers the patient gives to the specialist's questions. Therefore, this book is built very closely on the model of the interview conducted by the specialist in the outpatient department: At the beginning, the specialist asks a question, such as "How are you feeling?" or "What are you thinking?" To the specialist's questions, the patient gives an answer. The answer triggers the specialist's next question and so on. The patient's answers are analyzed and synthesized and, in the context of this book, shortly we bring to the reader the final conclusion—the diagnosis. The result is a very reliable and useful self-help tool. The only defect this book has is that it cannot replace the specialist (psychiatrist or psychologist).
It's new and smart and I liked it very much.

About the author:
Dr. Balan Silviu has worked in Tel Aviv for 25 years as a specialist in psychiatry. For four years, he has been the director of Shazar Medical Center.

About the book:
I first asked Dr. Balan what his reasons are for writing this book.
He answered, “Many times, a person is wondering if the symptoms he/she suffers are indicative of a mental problem or if they are only passing symptoms that are better off not treated. All of us are sad sometimes; all of us are anxious at other times. When are we speaking about a real mental problem, and when aren't we? Patients coping with these questions daily brought me to write this book.”

What are the aims of this book?
“The aim of this book is to give quick answers regarding the patients' complaints of feeling sad, or afraid, or noticing memory decline, or other mental, emotional, or behavioral disturbances.”

How was the book built?
“The present book does not show the reader a list of criteria (that defines depression, anxiety, or any other mental disorder) and ask him/her to verify that what he/she feels fits the list. This book is different; it takes the symptoms the reader is complaining about and quickly gives back a diagnosis.”
