FireGuard® is a revolutionary, water-based, flame-retardant treatment that can be easily and safely applied to clothing, draperies, furniture, carpets, rugs, and/or numerous other surface treatments. How & Why FireGuard® Works The key to FireGuard's® ability to retard flames is its organic ammonium salt formulation. When exposed to flames or intense heat, an acidic catalysis occurs resulting in the formation of an inert gas that blankets the surface. Because of this blanket, there is no oxygen available at the surface and flames cannot form. For best results, apply to clean, dry surfaces. FireGuard can be applied either by spraying or dipping. When sprayed, it should be applied at a rate of 200 to 500 square feet per gallon of FireGuard, depending upon the texture of the surface being treated. More absorbent surfaces will require heavier coverage. Cleaning or laundering treated surfaces may remove or dilute the treatment. To assure that items remain flame retardant, FireGuard should be reapplied after cleaning.
