Wanderer, actor Sterling Hayden's autobiography, is a fascinating look at a complex, handsome, articulate man who loved the sea and sailing, served bravely in the OSS during World War II with Yugoslav partisans, was briefly a member of the Communist Party, appeared in numerous motion pictures while in reality despising much of Hollywood, and voyages with his four children in his schooner, the Wanderer. Hayden (1916-1986) also provides insights into his marriages and divorces, his appearance before the House Un-American Affairs Committee, and his hopes and visions for the post-war world.
