Gyokuro, also known as 'jade dew', is the finest green tea from Japan. Its aroma is sweet and refreshing with a delicate aftertaste of butter and seaweed. Its colour is the brightest green and the scent reminds us of the first leaves in early spring. It has a soft, soothing flavour with a well-balanced finish. This grade of Gyokuro is a real treat. Less than half of one percent of all Japanese green tea ends up as Gyokuro. About three weeks before harvest, the tea plants used for Gyokuro are put under shade. This is called the way of 'Tana' and it changes the characteristics of the resulting tea considerably. This gives the tea its delicate sweetness and bright green colour. This tea was harvested June 2015. Brewing Gyokuro is quite a something else. Use about 3g of tea for 200ml and brew on 60-70?°C for 2-3 minutes. You can use this high-quality tea up to 4 times. Of course, as always you should adjust for your own preference. For these very fine sorts of green tea, we would recommend a porcelain(Japanese) teapot like a Kyushu otherwise a glass teapot would do as well.
