Although Ruth Brown never achieved the level of fame of some of her peers, without her hits Atlantic Records would not have been big enough to give acts like Otis Redding and, later, Aretha Franklin the support to cross over to the mainstream. She remains a legend in the world of rhythm and blues, not least for her work in helping many of her contemporaries receive their long-awaited due from the record labels they helped establish.
