Neeme Järvi and the Gothenburg Symphony continue their Kurt Atterberg symphony survey. The late-Romantic Symphony No.1 (1909-11, rev. 1913) was written during his student days at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and in-between military service and scholarship travel to Germany. His Symphony No.5 gets its title Funebre from the slow, tragic second movement. Atterberg made several revisions to this work, even rewriting the last movement twenty-five years later; the revised version has been recorded here.
