The Flagship Knoxville was originally delivered to American Airlines in March 1940. After being sold in 1948 this DC-3 changed hands several times, in 1991 the Grey Eagles (a group of active & retired American Airlines pilots over the age of 50) purchased it and began restoration. After being fully restored the Flagship Knoxville was returned to American Airlines in May 1993 as a contribution to the CR Smith museum located in Fort Worth, Texas.
