Savannah Wilkes, will soon meet up with a half breed bounty-hunter. The year is 1875.
Upon arriving in the frontier town of Fort Smith, she leaves her father's wagon to run an errand. When only walking a few blocks, she is viciously attacked.
Believing she is doomed to the assailant's assault,and with no help in sight, she suddenly realizes that a tall stranger has come to her aide.
Although, thankful for the stranger's help, Savannah, has no idea that her dilemma has just begun!
On returning home with her father, she hatches a gut-wrenching plan to runaway from home.
And plans on hiding in a wagon, departing for the lawless Indian Territory the very next morning.
She knows the wagon is being guided by the half-breed bounty hunter that had saved her from the brutal attack, the previous day.
While hiding under a tarp, she is eventually discovered, and tries to talk her way out of the situation, and hopes the breed will not take her back to Fort Smith.
She talks him out of taking her back, but will soon find herself and the half-breed stranded on the prairie, after a band of renegades steal their wagon and horses. Savannah is eventually captured by the renegades and nearly killed while she is held captive. She feels there is little hope in surviving, and makes every effort to protect her unborn child. This is a great romance book told in the old-west tradition.
