Personal alarms are legal to carry in all 50 states (even on airplanes!) and are a very safe method of self defense. They require no training or skill to operate, and can be used by anyone regardless of age or physical ability. Victims are often too traumatized to shout for help in unfamiliar and dangerous situations, increasing their vulnerability.
Batteries :Vigilant personal alarms all come preloaded with user replaceable batteries. Your alarm includes the first set of LR44 alkaline button-type batteries, which are pre-installed. Look for the small clear plastic tab on your alarm, and pull that out and discard it. That kept the batteries brand new until the alarm got to you. Now the alarm is activated and on standby. To change the batteries, you can unscrew the alarm from the back side using a small Philips screwdriver.
Operation of Your Clip Alarm:To arm the alarm, first hold open the clip by pressing on the side of the clip opposite from the On/Off switch. While the clip is open, move the switch from the Off position to the On position.
Keeping the clip open, attach it to the surface you intend to carry it on (clip it onto your belt/shirt/etc.)
To activate the alarm, pull it off of the object it is attached to.
To silence the alarm, open the clip, then move the switch to the Off position.
Note: the clip must be open to move the On/Off switch.
Test Your Alarm : We recommend that you test the alarm on receipt to get familiar with the sound. The clip alarm is unique and requires a bit of practice to understand how to activate it and turn it off again.
