Best of June Christy;

A former singer with Stan Kentons band, where she replaced Anita ODay, June Christy was always destined for greatness. Her performances with Kenton had her marked out as something special, and there was much anticipation when she finally launched a solo career in 1952. Over the next ten years, June turned out a succession of masterful albums, some of which harked back to her days with Kenton (June Christy Recalls Those Kenton Days) and others which showcased her natural abilities. Whilst she may not have had an instantly recognisable signature song, her abilities were such that she could make almost any sound as though it was especially written for her. This particular compilation, which was originally released in 1962, contains ten examples of that craft. With the orchestra, variously arranged by Pete Rugolo and Bob Cooper (the latter Junes husband) providing the perfect accompaniment, June delivers some quite stunning vocals, most notably on Something Cool and How High The Moon.
