Sweet Fennel Essential Oil, also known as Roman Fennel, was used by the Romans over three thousand years ago and was regarded as the herb of sight, as well as a symbol of strength and courage. Sweet Fennel Essential Oil has a spicy and sweet scent, similar to black licorice.
Fennel is one of the essential oils that will crystallize (not freeze) due to the content of anethole, which makes up 75.8% of our Sweet Fennel. Anethole is also shown to be highly therapeutic for its antioxidant and anti fungal properties.
Crystallization should happen somewhere between 3-6C. This is one test that can be done to verify the authenticity of Fennel Essential Oil.
This does not affect the therapeutic value of the oil, and it will return to liquid form once it reaches room temperature, which could take up to a few hours.
Originally, Ancient Greece used Sweet Fennel Essential Oil as a natural diuretic and slimming aid. They named the herb Marathron, which means "to grow thin. During Olympic games, athletes would use the seeds as a supplement to enhance strength and longevity.
Sweet Fennel Essential Oil would be an ideal ingredient in a massage blend to boost blood circulation and draw out excessive water from the tissues.
