This edition explores four works by Joseph Achron; Maurice Ravel's, Deux Melodies Hebraiques including both the Kaddisch and L'Enigma Eternelle; Russian-American composer Leo Zeitlin's best-known work, Eli Zion, which is a paraphrase of a folk theme from Song of Songs; Cantorial works by Joseph Yossele Rosenblatt and Solomon Rozumni; songs by Yiddish Theatre composers David Meyerowitz and Sholom Secunda; and two traditional Klezmer works, Doina and Street Melody. Also on the disk are classical works on Jewish themes: Beethoven: Judas Maccabeus Variations, Massenet: Elegie, Schubert: St¤ndchen and, from Camille Saint-Sa«ns opera Samson and Delilah, Delilah s aria Mon coeur s'ouvre   ta. The Massenet and Schubert, sung in Yiddish, were part of the concert repertoire of Yossele Rosenblatt. Martha Locker is the magnificent pianist.
