Our Limited Edition Pink NC State Scarf was created in honor of Kay Yow, the legendary coach of the NC State Women's Basketball team from 1975 to 2009. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. A member of the Naismith Hall of Fame, she amassed more 737 career wins. She also coached the U.S. women's basketball team to an Olympic gold medal in 1988 despite having been diagnosed with breast cancer less than one year earlier. With the creation of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Kay hoped to raise money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation's top doctors and medical experts to allow more and more cancer patients to have access to experimental drugs and clinical trials. Since the majority of these research projects are privately funded, these researchers desperately need the support of the fund in order for them to continue to make strides in finding a cure for cancer. To date, the Fund has raised over $7 million in support of women's cancer research. 15% of all sales of our Pink NC State Scarf will go directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
