Thomas Hampson is featured in the second batch of our series comprising five original artist studio albums in one clamshell box all at an unbeatable price.

The first disc in this set features Franz Schubert's song cycle, Winterreise (Winter Journey), performed with piano accompaniment by Wolfgang Sawallisch. Schubert's Winterreise is a musical setting of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller, a poet of whom Schubert was very fond. Disc two in this set offers a setting of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), which Hampson performs alongside Peter Seiffert and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle. The third disc of this five disc collection showcases Mahler's famed song cycle, Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children), performed with piano accompaniment by Wolfram Rieger. Disc four features a collection of songs by both Giacomo Meyerbeer and Gioachino Rossini with piano accompaniment by Geoffrey Parsons. The final disc in this five disc set provides a selection of arias from a variety of Guiseppe Verdi's operas. Together, these five discs showcase the astounding baritone voice of Thomas Hampson through a variety of vocal styles.

Thomas Hampson is renowned for his versatility performing in operas, operattas, musicals, oratorios, and recitals. Almost all of his recordings have received awards, including six Grammy nominations, two Edison Prizes from the Netherlands, two Prix du Disque, three Gramophone Awards, the Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Académie du Disque, the Prize de Charles Cors Académie du Disque Lyrique, the Echo Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, and the Cannes Classical Award. Thomas Hampson was EMI Artist of the Year in 1997. His recording of Tannhäuser received the Grammy Award 2002 for Best Opera Recording.
