Ikenobo is the oldest school of flower arranging in Japan, dating back to the 15th century. This standard pair of shears used by the ikenobo school has one of the most classic shapes and blade types for Japanese flower arranging. The handle is not looped as with other Japanese flower arranging shear types, resembling a traditional western pruning shear. Also, the blade is thick near the hinge and tapers off toward the tip, allowing the user to cut both thick branches as well as trim delicate stems and leaves.
