Los Texmaniacs stand at a major crossroads in the history of Texas Mexican musical tradition. The beginnings of their careers were rooted in a time of the music's heightened social relevance & creative expansion. The new social relevance came from the embrace of the button accordion–driven Tejano sound by the Chicano civil-rights movement in the '60s & '70s. The music became a means of resistance to social discrimination & a cultural symbol for building unity among Mexican Americans. It became part of the 'soundtrack' opposing the Vietnam War & other notable struggles.
