Chinese pianist Zhu Xiao-Mei was born into a family of artists. She began music studies at a very young age, and had already played the piano on radio and television in Beijing when she was only eight. At age ten, she entered into the National School of Music for exceptionally gifted children. Unfortunately, her studies were interrupted by the Cultural Revolution and she spent five years in a labor camp. Despite those difficulties, she managed to practice the piano in secret. In 1979, she left China for the US, where she was immediately hailed for her exceptional musicality. Now a resident of France, Xiao-Mei is a regular on the concert scene in Europe. This interesting selection of solo piano works by Mozart spans a wide period of the composer s output.
