4 Concertos for Violin (Archets De Paris, Vieux) [Digipak];

One of the celebrities of eighteen-century Parisian society and the darling of the salons was the black composer Saint-George. He produced 215 works, which unfortunately, for two centuries suffered from cultural apartheid. Saint-George was also a famous fencer, and his concertos show similar skills: daring, virtuosity, exciting duels between the violinist and his instrument. He allows the interpreter great freedom, so the artist's 'reading' is of vital importance - which is why the works on this recording are performed by three soloists, each giving his own interpretation of the music of Saint-George. Coqueluche des Lumières, ce compositeur à la peau noire qui légue à la postérité 215 opus, a été victime d'un apartheid culturel de deux siècles. Cet escrimeur, dont la presse célè bre l'ingéniosité et les audaces, transformait ses pièces en un véritable duel entre le virtuose et son instrument. Laissant l'initiative à ses interprètes, la «lecture» de l'artiste est donc essentielle. C'est pourquoi ce programme développe trois perceptions de Saint-George.
