The meadows to the east of and above Gray’s Lake Wildlife Refuge in Idaho used to offer some surprising biophonies –especially in the late spring. This particular dusk chorus was made while following the path of spring as it moved north 16 miles a day. It was there that I camped alone one evening among the forest sounds that engulfed me. Alive with voices of many kinds of birds and insects, this jewel meadow offered a moment of refuge from the noise of the road and distant cities. For me, it signaled a time of renewal expressed by the voices of the divine.

ALPINE MEADOW is located to the east of Gray’s Lake Wildlife Refuge in S. E. Idaho. This recording was made while following spring as it moved north 16 miles a day. The soundscape is an example of a rich June evening chorus in a western alpine meadow.
