Doktor Faust - Poem for music in two prologues, an intermezzo and three principal scenes. -- Rather than using the Goethe tale of Faust, Busoni relied on older German sources to create the poem used for the text for his composition (in German). It is the usual tale of a pact with Mephistopheles to gain protection as well as all of his wishes, and the dishonoring of a beautiful maiden. - The three disc set features the Bavarian Radio orchestra and Chorus conducted by Ferdinand Leitner. Faust is sung by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
