When it comes to Mozart, Uchida is an unabashed--some would say incorrigible--romantic. But while she can occasionally sound capricious in matters of pacing, articulation, and dynamics, her instincts almost always lead in a felicitous direction. Such is the case with these accounts of the sonatas, recorded between 1983 and 1987. Uchida's approach is unfailingly lyrical, her touch gentle, her tone limpid and bright.
