Wifredo Lam (1902–82) was born in Cuba to parents of Chinese, African, and Spanish descent—thus giving him ties to four continents, links that would all reveal their influences in his artwork. This volume accompanies an exhibition of Lam’s work at the McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College that highlights his heretofore underappreciated Spanish influences, revealing their undeniable presence in several of his greatest works.
