This is a detailed survey of the jet-powered flying boats produced by the Beriev design bureau. Established as long ago as the 1930s, Beriev is one of the less well known of the Soviet design bureaus. The organization is still active as an aircraft design and manufacturing business today. Its particular forte lay in the development of flying boats. While these have been powered by both piston and jet engines, this book focuses on those jet-engined aircraft produced from the late 1960s onwards. These include the Be-30, Be-32, BE-43, Be-103 and Be-200. These aircraft were intended for a wide variety of uses, including passenger transport and maritime rescue operations. The book is highly illustrated with color and black and white photographs and line drawings and provides a great deal of information on these aircraft, on which little has been published in the west until now. Many aviation enthusiasts and modelers are interested in flying boats, and this area of aviation in general is one which publishers have tended to neglect. This latest addition to the Red Star series is one which will be welcomed by a wide range of potential customers.
