Ryan Bonelli was going to be a teacher before he published a story about wild horses in Nevada. He was concerned with the plight of animals as well as any injustice that he stumbled upon. He did his writing in a small cabin in the mountains above Austin, Nevada. He was excited about a story he was working on when he went to Montana to meet with a retired FBI man. Soon afterward, he is found shot dead in a motel room on the east shore of Flathead Lake. The authorities have ruled it a suicide, but his family does not believe it. I agree to follow Ryan's footsteps from the high desert of central Nevada to Flathead Lake in Montana. The journey turns out to be dangerous and disturbing.
