This publication is designed for use by both interested laypersons and plant scientists. It includes 414 illustrations, descriptions of more than 430 naturalized and cultivated trees, shrubs and woody vines that are known to occur in New Mexico, distribution maps and dichotomous keys. A pictorial glossary provides much of the elementary information required to make the decisions necessary to determine the species under consideration. It is designed for field study and backpacking, and at the same time it includes many cultivated plants one finds in city lawns and gardens.
