Despite his staggering accomplishments, Henry Flagler has been overlooked by history. The credit for rediscovering him goes largely to Edward T. Chase and G.F. Robert Hanke, Flagler's great grandson and vice president of the Flagler Museum. Sometime in the late 1970s they began talking about the possibility of a Flagler biography. Out of those conversations grew the momentum for this book, only the second biography to be published on Flagler in the 115 years since he joined John Rockefeller to start America's first industrial giant, the Standard Oil Company.
